Dr. Jose S. Figueroa, D.O., is a highly experienced and board-certified physician with over 25 years of clinical, academic, and military medical experience. He is the founder and medical director of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation by Joe, a practice dedicated to treating patients combining specialized thorough evaluations and treatments that include osteopathic principles and practice. He also holds an International Certificate in Fascial Distortion Model (FDM).

• Founder & Clinician of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation by Joe (2025–Present) Established a private solo practice, providing specialized care in physical medicine and rehabilitation (PM&R) and Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine (OMM).
• Physician & Assistant Professor, at the medical school, Des Moines University-DMU (2002–2024) Served as a staff physician at the DMU Clinic and assistant professor at the College of Osteopathic Medicine, teaching and mentoring medical students and other physicians in PM&R and OMM. At the end of his employment with DMU, he started his own clinic in 2025.
• Staff Physiatrist & Assistant Chief, PM&R Department, Madigan Army Medical Center, Fort Lewis, WA (1999–2002) Led clinical teams in delivering advanced rehabilitative care for active-duty military personnel and veterans.
• Commissioned Officer, United States Army (1987–1999) Progressed through the ranks of First Lieutenant (1987), Captain (1995), and Major (1999), with extensive leadership and medical service experience.

Dr. Figueroa brings a unique blend of clinical expertise, academic insight, and holistic philosophy to his work. Raised in Puerto Rico and fluent in both English and Spanish, he connects with patients from diverse backgrounds. He has a passion for helping people regain function and improve their quality of life, combining traditional rehabilitation with osteopathic manipulation and body-mind-spirit healing.

Beyond medicine, Dr. Figueroa is an accomplished martial artist and musician who enjoys playing the harmonica and Native American flute. Other personal interests include intuitive archery, snorkeling, horseback riding, spirituality, fitness, nutrition, and spending time with his children and loved ones.
